Since its inception in 1914, the Friendship Committee – originally known as the Women’s Committee – has raised millions of dollars through various fundraising activities.
Recent donations to AHN West Penn Hospital include:
In 2021, proceeds from the Friendship Tea supported the establishment of a Beads of Courage program at West Penn Hospital for pediatric burn patients, at a cost of $5,500
In 2021, $1,100 raised from the holiday raffle was donated to West Penn Hospital for patient needs including hearing devices and new underwear, socks, shoes and other clothing for patients being discharged.
In 2020, $9,000 was donated to West Penn Hospital to provide every West Penn Hospital employee with a $5 dining card in grateful appreciation for the loving care staff provided to patients of West Penn Hospital during the pandemic.
In 2020, $2,500 was donated to create the Serenity (Lavender) Room. Code Lavender is a crisis intervention tool for care team members – providing “psychological first aid” and is administered by Social Services. In the event of a hospital-based situation, where care team staff have an emotionally charged reaction (Covid-19, mass casualty, patient loss of life, etc.), Code Lavender provides a safe place and expert help and assistance to address staff emotional needs.
In 2019, $30,000 was donated to West Penn Hospital for the HELP program for the elderly, Burn Center Summer Camp and the purchase of holiday decorations for the Hospital.
